This piece refers to a dream with elements I still have in mind: the sun, the Mediterranean, views down to the seabed of the ancient mosaics of a sunken Roman city and swimming in the clear water above. The dream was the inspiration for an earlier draft, that I wanted on the one hand to leave as it was and on the other to elaborate into a performable piece.

Writing a play about love and death is quite impossible without becoming pathetic.
That’s why it doesn’t contain both of these, and yet it explores both in the language that music can speak. The piece unfolds in different time forms, in tides and cycles as well as in the moments of the relation, which are – and have to be – only like this and unique, before they pass into the flow of eternal time again.
This is why there are specially marked moments in time whose temporal organisation is given over to the relationship of the two players at that moment.

Dieses Stück bezieht sich auf einen Traum, dessen Elemente ich noch immer vor Augen habe: u.a. die Sonne, das Mittelmeer, Blicke hinunter zum Meeresboden zu den antiken Mosaiken einer versunkenen römischen Stadt und das Schwimmen im klaren Wasser darüber.
Der Traum war die Inspiration für einen früheren Entwurf, den ich einerseits so belassen und andererseits zu einem spielbaren Stück ausarbeiten wollte.

Ein Stück über Liebe und Tod zu schreiben, ist ziemlich unmöglich, ohne pathetisch zu werden.
Daher kommt beides so nicht vor, und doch untersucht es beides in der Sprache, die der Musik möglich ist. Das Stück entfaltet sich in verschiedene Zeitformen hinein, in Gezeiten und Zyklen genauso wie in die Momente der Beziehung, die nur so und einmalig sind und sein müssen, bevor sie wieder in den Fluss der ewigen Zeit übergehen. Daher gibt es extra markierte Zeit-Momente, deren zeitliche Gestaltung der Beziehung der beiden Spielenden in diesem Moment anheim gegeben werden.
